                                 Cost of Living Adjustment

The 2019 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for VA disability compensation of 2.8% is the largest COLA increase since 2012. This rate increase followed rate increase of 2.0% in 2018, 0.3% in 2017, and no rate increase in 2016.

Current VA Disability Compensation Pay Rates

The 2019 VA Disability Compensation Rates are effective as of December 1, 2018. The increase in the VA Service-Connected Disability Rates is tied to the same cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) provided by the Social Security Administration. These are the same rates that the government uses in determining the cost of living increases for Social Security recipients, military retirees, and federal civilian retirees.
